The
Travellers Rest
is located on the main road into Newcastle at
Wideopen. This John Barras pub is an old building with the unusual
feature of a large clock outside stopped at 2.30! The traditional
interior has two fireplaces, a live fire and a gas one, lit in cold wintry
weather. Outside in the car park there is a betting office which is
very popular with the horse racing and football enthusiasts who frequent
the pub. The majority of our clientele are local regulars who like
this venue for the sport shown, the good value for money food served and
the variety of entertainment provided. Food is chosen from the main
menu and specials board and the meal offers during the week are
particularly popular. There is a bar and separate lounge and this
has quieter music to allow for conversation. We hold two quiz nights
each week and have a singer every other weekend which is popular with the
locals. Drop in when you are down this way and meet the crowd.
The friendly team will give you a warm welcome.
