Photo Coming SoonThe Swan is the oldest building in the rural village of Heddon on the Wall.  Set in a great location we have views overlooking the Tyne Valley to the Pennines about 30 miles away - on a clear day.  The stone building dates back to 1780 and we celebrated its hundredth year as a pub in December 2005.  Fully refurbished to a high standard in May 2008 the look combines modern and traditional, effortlessly.  Light and airy with comfortable modern furniture, there is a sumptuous feel and total seating for 240 people.  Our feature wine wall is situated behind the carvery station.  The extension affords excellent views of the valley.  A quality carvery is available daily along with an extensive table menu.  All our food is freshly prepared and meat used is UK reared.  To accompany your meal or enjoy alone, the wine menu has an excellent selection of wines from around the world.  Fairtrade freshly brewed coffee and Ringtons tea is always served.  A working blacksmiths used to be where the restaurant is now.  One of the three fireplaces was the forge and there is a large metal wheel dug into the ground outside the restaurant which was the actual mould for forging the cart wheels.  The horses used to come in to be shod where the middle window is and the beams are still there.  Being two minutes walk from Hadrian's Wall we are a very popular spot for ramblers who drop in for refreshments.  We are accessible to all being only 20 minutes drive from Newcastle City Centre with the Metro Centre and Corbridge within easy reach.  Make sure you call in soon and enjoy what this friendly, welcoming pub has to offer.

When you visit the pub please let the staff know you have seen it on Pub Explorer.
