The most spectacular location of any Newcastle pub – facing the Castle
Keep, beside Stephenson’s High level bridge and overlooking the Tyne, The
Bridge is
matched by the most glorious interior. Gleaming surfaces of panelling and carved
fittings, stained glass windows telling the story of the Quayside, mosaics and
other well crafted details absorb the eye. So does a varied, quality clientele
gathered in the rooms that radiate from the unique shuttered bar serving six
cask beers. There is always plenty going on, with a legendary music programme
and an excellent programme of food at the upstairs dining area.
The building is Victorian, built on a medieval site over a Roman burial ground.
The back room and outdoor terrace have breathtaking vistas over the Quayside
which you can reach down ancient steps. Long on views, long on history, long on
choice of beers, the Bridge will make you feel very, very comfortable.
