DINING AT OUR PUB |
|
In The Bray Restaurant our chef
creates a core menu of British favourites served
with modern flair and Shere flavour. Meats, fish,
eggs and vegetables are all sourced from local
producers where ever possible such as Smokery and Secretts with key
favourites such as The Shere Drop sausages, William
Bray burgers and ice creams, all home made on site.
In the main we keep it
simple, to let key flavours take the lead and then
add a spark of something unusual that complements
well.
Range of menus includes; The Shere Bar and Garden
Menu, Small Plates and Salads plus fine Lunches and
Dinners throughout the day. Menus change daily and
appealing children’s options are always available. |

Welcome to The William Bray, a recently renovated,
contemporary British bar and restaurant in the heart
of Shere, one of Surrey’s prettiest villages,
situated just off the A25 between Dorking and
Guildford.
Named after the 17th Century local lawyer, diarist
and
Lord of the Manor of Shere,
we are committed to offering great quality, British,
locally-sourced, seasonal food and drink whenever
possible - you can walk to quite a few of our
suppliers from the bar, they are that close!
Your meal is served in a classic, modern setting with
real fires and oak floors. There is a
traditional bar, smart dining area, an attractive garden and
a terrace
overlooking the village where you can enjoy al
fresco dining during the summer months. We have ample parking for
cars, bicycles and horses! Dogs and children
are all
welcome.
The Shere Bar has already developed a loyal
following for Surrey Hills Brewery’s award-winning
‘Shere Drop’ and 'Ranmore Ale’ beers and is one of
the few places in Surrey which offers the celebrated Ruinart champagne.
We have an interesting selection of wines supplied by H & H Bancroft,
chosen by the glass
as well as bottle.
The William Bray also celebrates a recently
discovered claim to fame for the Shere writer
concerning the great American pastime, baseball.
Local historians in Surrey have confirmed evidence
that ‘Base Ball’ was played in Britain more than 20
years before American Independence! More usually
attributed to Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey,
published in 1817, William Bray’s diary has now been
accredited as the first mention of a game of ‘Base
Ball’, played in Guildford by men and women on
Easter Monday, March 31st 1755 – some 50 years
earlier.
As the first bar
and restaurant venture for ex-Formula One racing
driver, Julian Bailey, The William Bray also has a
distinct flavour of British sporting prowess,
brought alive through original photographs and
memorabilia gathered from his time on the circuit -
"William Bray had a long and eventful life and
made a strong, positive impact on the life of Shere. He was a very social man and enjoyed sports so it
felt just right to me to name the William Bray
after him.
Our aim is to provide really good
contemporary food and drink in a stylish and
welcoming manner and make sure out guests have a
really enjoyable experience". Be sure to
come and see us soon. |
