![]() The Jovial Sailor exudes the character and charm of a traditional British pub. Situated in a semi rural location on the outskirts of the village of Ripley just four miles from Woking and Guildford, there has been a Jovial (or Jolly, as it used to be called) Sailor here for over 200 years. In the 18th Century the Ripley turnpike stood at the top of the hill and tolls were levied. The pub became a popular destination for travellers who would feed and water their horses in the stables which is now part of the pub. The earliest reference was in the deeds for 1781 when it was owned by a Chertsey brewer named Lawrence Porter and the pub stayed in the Porter family until the 19th Century. Today we offer fine dining in a convivial atmosphere. Like most Chef & Brewer venues there are nooks and crannies for privacy, two open fires for winter warmth and candles on the tables for ambience. Meals are served every day from an exciting menu with each dish prepared from fresh ingredients. Come and enjoy a relaxed meal complemented by a fine wine or tasty real ale if you prefer. You will have an experience to remember. |
