Hand & Spear, built in the 1830's,
has been transformed into the most stylish and
elegant pub in Weybridge. The comfy
sofas, luxurious décor and the state of the art open
plan kitchen is a real turnaround from how it used
to be. Smart, uniformed
staff with bubbly personalities greet you and are
always happy to
help. Chilled, laid back, non intrusive music
is piped through with each area controlled separately
allowing music levels to be changed to suit the mood. The outside al fresco area
is just as impressive with a BBQ area, outside bar and
heated Jumbrellas for all year round enjoyment. Set back from
the road there is plenty of
woodland area around us and local golf courses.
Come and dine, have a quality drink and soak up
the sun in our fabulous garden at the Hand & Spear. The extensive garden has been carefully landscaped,
and the addition of a covered, heated decking means
that it can be enjoyed all year round. Visit
this rather special venue soon and perhaps try our
House Speciality Bloody Mary made from a secret
recipe. |
|
History Hand and Spear was built by Lord
King, Baron of Ockham, as a summer house for his
family between 1830 and 1833. In 1833 lord King died
and his land in Weybridge passed to his second son,
Peter Locke King who brought his widowed mother to
live in Woburn House, now St. Georges College.
When the railway was built and open Peter realised that his summer house could be a
business asset and turned it into a hotel.
He called it the Hand & Spear from his family
crest which shows a hand grasping a spear. |
