The Plough is a very busy, family
run pub, situated in Whitchurch, mostly used by regular locals and people from the village,
plus others who travel to us. Set in a lovely village, this is one
of few where we still have some decent shops, a fishmongers, vegetable
shop, village shop and butchers. Historically this old fashioned
large building used to be an hotel until about the 1930's when it became
a pub. Today it has a snug bar and
lounge with large doors to the front which open up in summer so you can walk back
and
forth which gives a modern feel in an old fashioned pub. There are about 400 pictures
decorating the walls, quite a few of local Whitchurch in days gone by.
We also have a skittle alley
which doubles up as a function room, ideal for small social gatherings.
During the
summer the side door to the alley opens up and functions can spread out into
the beer
garden. Having pleasant piped music in the background this is a tidy, well kept
venue inside and out. There is an attractive outdoor
seating area and we are proud to have won 'garden in bloom' several times. Gordon and Julie have been here
since about 1993 and although alterations have kept up with the times,
the pub has lost none of its traditional look and
character. Good wholesome
pub food is served six afternoons a week, prepared from ingredients locally
sourced wherever possible. A traditional old fashioned welcome awaits you at
the Plough.
