The
Plough & Harrow is situated between the villages of Murton
and Bishopston
and
is one of the oldest pubs in the Gower Peninsula, which was the first area
in Britain to be designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty.
The
pub itself reportedly dates back to the early 1500's! We are within
easy reach of all the Gower beaches with Caswell Beach being the nearest,
only 5 minutes
drive away. Because the pub is in a small village location we are
popular with the locals but passers by also find us an ideal destination
venue when heading to the beaches or even going into Swansea centre to
shop, which is only 20 minutes away. There are also local footpaths
which will take you through lovely greenery.
During the summer months the
beer gardens are popular, especially in the
early evening with those who have spent the afternoon at one of the local
award winning beaches. It is not unusual to see the beer gardens
quite busy even in the chilly winter months as the rear garden is heated
and the all year round hanging baskets make it a pleasant place to relax
and enjoy the evening. Inside, there is traditional
decor with exposed oak beams and white walls. Oil paintings, which are
all by a local artist and for sale, are displayed on the walls. The lounge area is popular
for anyone preferring a quiet ambience and open fire, lit in the winter months.
The bar is the place to enjoy sport, shown by terrestrial
channels. We offer a wide ranging
menu which includes a variety of home cooked Specials throughout
the day and evening. The Sunday roasts are particularly
popular as we use only the finest local beef and Welsh lamb with fresh
vegetables bought in daily from the local market and our very own homemade
rich gravy! We would recommend you book in advance for the weekends and
holiday periods. To accompany your meal or try at the bar we serve a
good selection of
real ales, wines, spirits and beers.
There is always a warm and friendly welcome at the Plough and Harrow.
The manager, chef and many of the staff, one of whom has worked here for
over 30 years, are fully committed to offering you consistent excellent
service. Why not try us out soon?
