Butchers Arms PhotoThe Butchers Arms is a very traditional, family run pub in the Cardiff suburb of Canton.  Dating back to approximately 1850, the pub takes its name from the many butchers who used to trade in Market Street.  The venue is traditionally decorated with wooden floors and our 140 guest ale pump clips have pride of place in the bar which represents how many real ales we have had over the past 12 months!  We are featured in the Good Beer Guide and have been awarded Pub of the Year 2008 by Cardiff CAMRA!  The open bar is curved right round the pub so everyone can see everyone but we do have a newly decorated relaxing room with a TV which is ideal to chill out  and have a chat with friends over a bottle of wine.  The pub has a strong base of local regulars and being family run with staff from the nearby area, there is a warm welcome.  Anyone coming into the pub is sure to get talking to by the regulars as they are a friendly bunch.  Yearly trips are run from the pub to various locations including Amsterdam, Chepstow races and the like, plus we also take part in regular charity events.  With a big emphasis on Sport, we have a darts team which plays from the pub and a strong horse racing following.  We are ideally placed only a minute's walk from the Millennium Stadium and five minutes walk from Cardiff City football ground, making us 'the' destination before or after the match or event.  When Cardiff City are playing we welcome many supporters who come for the good atmosphere.  Chapter Art Cultural Centre is not far from the pub which holds regular events such as Play or Film viewings and there is also a massive local shopping area which caters for everybody.
Although we do not serve food we have a BBQ available for anyone wishing to bring their own food and use our utensils and facilities. You can also order a pizza, curry or chinese meal to be delivered to the pub and we’ll do the washing up!  The outside of the pub is very quaint, almost church like, particularly with the original stained glass windows which bear the pub name. We also have recently installed French doors from the lounge into the front beer garden.  The facilities are kept in pristine condition and we take pride in this being a fantastic pub.  Come and visit this family friendly venue soon.

When you visit the pub please let the staff know you have seen it on Pub Explorer.
