The Albany is a busy corner pub
located on a main
road in Roath, slightly off the main drag into Cardiff. Built in 1895
this is a very good traditional
pub which does some food. Unlike many pubs in the area, we have not
been turned into a trendy wine bar or theme pub, but have stayed a real pub
serving real beer for real people. Renowned for our excellent cask ales,
we have been 'CAMRA local pub of the year' two years running and offer a
good range
of real ales served to perfection. This is a warm, welcoming pub, where everyone gets on well and mixes
with one another, from the regulars who have been drinking here for decades,
to ladies and business people who pop in for a spot of lunch along with
students and people who specifically make a trip to us from other areas. Pub food is
served here from a main menu and Specials board with regularly changing
items such as ham, egg and chips, bacon and cheese melt, leek and potato soup
and various curries. There is a lounge with plush carpets which has a cosy atmosphere and is
popular with small groups. In contrast there is a separate bar, with tiled
floor and a juke box, where the banter is rather more lively. Despite
the quite separate areas, people from both sides mix extremely well.
If you are new to the area or are looking for another venue come and try
Albany soon. You will be made very welcome.
