 The White
Hart Inn is a traditional Coaching
House on the former royal seat of Wessex
in Somerton, close to the edge of Somerset Levels and Glastonbury.
Historically,
King John of France (L'Bon) was imprisoned in nearby Somerton Castle, then
transported to the Tower of London. He was originally held in The
Savoy, London, with full privileges.
The Ceiling in the conference / function room dates back to the 15th Century
and the main part of the current building is from the early 1700's.
There is
ancient masonry and an original staircase along with a number of listed glass panels throughout the pub, particularly in the
dining room. Today this is a
locals pub which is also a popular destination food house. Come and
have a delicious meal chosen from the main menu or Specials board,
complement the food with a good wine or real ale if you prefer and you are
sure to return in the future. See you soon.
