Balmwell is located in Howden Hall village, some 15 minutes drive from the centre of Edinburgh, within easy reach of the bypass.  This beautiful building is set in its own grounds with the huge garden being home to squirrels, foxes and other wildlife.  Historically it used to be a Convent where the nuns sourced natural oils and balms from the well to treat lepers who had a colony here.  Hence the name Balmwell!  Today, this is a warm and inviting Two For One venue with up to date decor but still retaining traditional olde worlde charm with such original features as the two big fireplaces.  We have kept many of our regular clientele and now welcome visitors from further afield, including families.  During the day business people spend their lunch breaks with us enjoying a meal or a drink with colleagues.  Our varied selection of wholesome dishes are available every day from the main menu.  To complement your meal we offer a range of wines.  Come along soon to a very special venue for a meal, a drink with friends or even take in the very popular quiz.  The well trained staff are on hand to give you a fine welcome.
