OUR BEERS
Black
Sheep Best Bitter 3.8% ABV
Our best bitter is already established as a firm favourite in pubs
across the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. A well-hopped, light golden
session bitter with a distinctive dry, refreshing taste enjoyed through
a rich, creamy head.
Black
Sheep Ale 4.4% ABV
A full flavoured ale with a rich
fruit nose brewed with many generous handfuls of choice Golding hops
giving a bittersweet malty taste, followed by an uncompromisingly long,
dry and bitter finish.
Emmerdale
4.2% ABV
Distinctive balance between the
flavours of fruity Golding variety hops, Maris Otter malted barley and
demerara sugar. Strong and refreshingly long, dry and bitter finish.
Riggwelter
5.9% ABV (Bottle 5.7%)
Riggwelter: from the Old Norse: rygg - shoulder and velte - to
overturn. When a sheep is on its back and cannot get up without
help, local dales dialect says its's rigged or riggwelted. A deep
chestnut brown full-bodied beer with a rich near-white head and the
aroma of fresh roasted coffee. A wonderfully complex palate with
hints of coffee, bananas and liquorice leading to a classic Goldings hop
finish.
OUR HISTORY
In the early nineties Paul Theakston, 5th
generation of Masham’s famous brewing family, saw an opportunity to
develop his inherited skills, founding a brewery to make traditional
beer in the time-honoured fashion. Spreading out from the Yorkshire
Dales, Black Sheep beers are now available not only across the UK but
around the world.
October 2006 is a particularly exciting
landmark for Black Sheep Brewery, as two and half years of brewery
development reaches completion, providing a 65% increase in capacity.
Black Sheep Brewery is also proud to be awarded “Brewery of the Year”
for the second year running by The Good Pub Guide.
BEERS
All Black Sheep beers are made from
high-quality traditional materials: crystal clear dales water, Maris
Otter malted barley for extra flavour, some wheat to fortify the beers’
natural head, a crystal malt for colour and flavour and generous amounts
of whole English hops to make the beer really refreshing.
