The
Coach and Horses is the only pub in
the quiet village of Hemingby, approximately three and a half miles outside
Horncastle on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, an area of outstanding natural
beauty. Although only a very small building, the Coach & Horses
provides comfortable surroundings in which to eat, drink and socialise. It is a
traditional village pub with an open fire in winter, low beams (watch your
head!) and brasses and plates for decoration. There is a pool table, darts
board and dominoes if you fancy a game. Outside there is a pleasant beer garden with plenty of seating and play
equipment for the children. The grounds of the pub include a two-acre field
which stretches down to the banks of the River Bain - handy for keen fishermen.
The field is available for camping and caravanning - no need to drive home after
testing the real ales! Originally from
Rotherham, Keith & Deborah Stride, the licensees, together
with their two sons, Adam and Oliver, came to The Coach & Horses in January
1993 after running a hotel in Todmorden, Lancashire for the previous five years.
Keith is a member of CAMRA and takes pride in providing a good selection of real
ales. The pub won the Pub of the Season award from the Lincoln branch of CAMRA
in Summer 1997 and has been listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide from 1998
onwards. Deborah has introduced a comprehensive range of bar meals from sandwiches to
steaks, many dishes home-made, including selections for vegetarians and
children. All dishes are very competitively priced. Come and visit the
Coach and Horses and you will want to come back again and again.
