This recently refurbished old-fashioned local is quietly situated in the centre of Washington Village. Any American visiting the birthplace of the Founding Father at the nearby National Trust property of Washington Old Hall only has to go up the steps (after which the pub is named) to appreciate the atmosphere of a cosy, warm, country inn. He might also learn to savour the beer that flows from the hand pumps of this oasis of cask ales in Washington.
