The Horse & Jockey
first appears in the Stanford in the Vale parish records
600 years ago. The earliest entry refers to the land on
which we stand, called the 'jockey piece'. Stanford village is steeped in
history and legend, as is the surrounding area. Legend has it that King Richard
I, who married a local Stanford lady
was married in the Stanford Norman church, a 5 minute walk from
us. Also nearby is Cromwell house, a HQ of Oliver Cromwell during the
Puritan campaign against Faringdon which was a fiercely loyalist town. The church
still bears the puritan cannon marks. The Horse and Jockey offers a
separate dining room, accommodation, event catering, conference and meeting
facilities, outside dining, beer gardens and a selection of bar and restaurant
meals to suit all tastes. The inn benefits from an open fire in the cosy
bar, a friendly atmosphere and an exquisite food menu. The emphasis is on
the use of fresh produce and appetising food. At lunchtime, an extensive
bar menu is available. In the evening there is a full restaurant menu and
a specials board offering a variety of fish dishes. The 3 en suite
bedrooms are individually designed and offer traditional comfort. All are
equipped with television, luxury toiletries and hospitality trays. A
choice of breakfast may include full English or fresh seasonal fruits.
newspapers provided, and for those with time to linger over breakfast, there is
unlimited tea and coffee..
