Of the eight pubs on and around Tynemouth’s Front Street, Fitzpatrick’s
stands out for all the right reasons. Its changing selection of hand-pulled ales
make it the only one to earn a CAMRA listing year after year. The welcoming and
comfortable wood-panelled interior is in two parts: a spacious area around the
bar and what can best be described as a large snug by the stained glass bay
window, a favourite gathering place for locals and local societies. Lunchtime
appetites are honoured by fish and chips par excellence – North Shields caught
cod, tea and bread butter. As packed as any Tynemouth pub at the weekend,
Fitzpatrick’s sustains its appeal and its clientele throughout the week
without the aid of music. If you could visit only one pub in Tynemouth,
Fitzpatrick’s is the one.
