The Cross Keys is to be found in the rural setting of
Upsall,
four miles from Guisborough, with Whitby just a 25 minute drive away. This
is Captain Cook country as he was born and went to school in a nearby
village. The pub was originally two stone farm cottages where the farmer's
daughters used to sell lemonade to passing travellers. This changed to the
sale of beer and eventually, in 1800, it became a Coaching Inn. Today, this
destination food house still retains its olde worlde appearance with some
original beams and interesting nooks and crannies. Outside there is a beer
garden and the building is decorated with hanging baskets and window
boxes. The Premier Inn next door is an ideal place to stay if you have
come some way to find us and most of our clientele are visitors to the
area. Like all Chef & Brewer pubs we employ high quality Chefs who
have superb kitchen facilities. The food can be chosen from a main
menu or unique Specials from the chalk boards which allow our Chefs to
show their flair! You will be served meals which have been
prepared from the freshest of ingredients and cooked to order. The
chefs create fish specials which have to be tasted. To complement
your meal there is an extensive choice of quality wines. For connoisseurs of real ale, there is a treat
awaiting you here as we are Cask Marque approved and also have an entry in the
Good Beer Guide. CAMRA actually uses us as their meeting place, so we must
be doing something right! If you are looking for a food place which is a little
special, then Cross Keys is well worth coming out of your way to try.
