The White Lion Hotel is a small,
friendly family run hotel located in the heart of the community on the green in the small
rural village of Talybont. We are only five minutes from
the beaches, seven miles from the university town of Aberystwyth and close
to Ynyflaf Nature Reserve. This is an ideal spot for walkers, cyclists and
fishermen. Our accommodation makes us a good base for enjoying such
activities and relaxing in a homely environment afterwards. Dating back to
1864, there are photographs giving a detailed history of the pub situated in the bar.
We have been in the Good Beer Guide since 2002 and the Pub Food Guide since
2005. Formerly a butchers shop, the original slate floor and ceiling hooks remain
in the old bar. A burner set in the old fashioned fireplace offers
welcome warmth in the colder months. If you are peckish, you can enjoy
some freshly cooked pub food with us. Most of our menu is hand cooked on
the premises and we aim to use fresh local produce wherever possible, including
Welsh reared meat. Our speciality is local fish with fresh trout, lobster,
sea bass et al seasonally available on the menu. Most evenings you can meet the
fishermen who caught them for us! Handmade desserts are always on the menu
to be enjoyed by themselves or after a spot of lunch or dinner. We are a dog
friendly venue both in the accommodation and the bar area. The large beer
garden with children's play area is enclosed for safety. John and Maureen
will give a warm friendly welcome to all who visit. Why not come and see
us soon.
