The
Pump House was originally built in the mid 1800's and housed the
first engineering hydraulics system to be installed anywhere in the world,
powering the gates and factories of the Docks. This wonderful listed
building was refurbished in June 2008 to create a fantastic contemporary
look, however the old bricks, wood and original floor
cobbles are still exposed. The chimney is huge and a true landmark of the
Docks and City, we certainly are one of the most photographed pubs, and welcome
tourists and visitors from all over the world. The bar area is open plan but
there is more intimate booth seating or you can sit back and relax in one of
the many sofas. It offers a pleasant dining experience and a large selection
of drinks. We’re also situated right next
door to Granada TV, the place where the ‘This Morning’ show used to be
filmed, with the weatherman Fred jumping around on his floating map. Our
large patio area overlooks the Docks and the River Mersey and on a sunny day
is a perfect location to enjoy a cold beer or a nice chilled bottle of wine.
The docks are scattered with cafes, bars, shops, museums and attractions and
the Pumphouse pub is perfectly situated if you are visiting these or the
Maritime Museum, the Beatles Fab Four exhibition or even the fantastic new
Echo Arena which is literally just around the corner. We offer our visitors
a happy, trouble free environment with a relaxing atmosphere that combines
history and tradition, with modern, friendly and fun. We look forward to
seeing you. Please mention you saw us on ‘Pub Explorer’ we’d love to know.
