The Royal Oak
Swayfield is a 17th
Century pub with oak
paneling, real fires and heavily beamed ceilings. During spring 2010 The
Royal Oak underwent
a sympathetic redevelopment from the ground up to revive the warm, classic
country pub feel. The pub is once again open and with the essential village
pub feel is welcoming all. As we are a Freehouse we benefit from being able to provide a wider
selection for you to choose form. We take a great deal of pride in our
beers, lagers, wines and soft drinks to ensure that you get the best
experience. The Royal Oak is the
name to the English Oak tree within which King Charles II of England, hid to
escape the roundheads following the battle of Worcester in 1651. Nestled in
beautiful Lincolnshire the Inn was built around 1650, and has served the
local settlers, villagers and passers-by throughout the years. Now known as
the Royal Oak, it had a brief period as the Bakers Arms. Our current journey
is simple, real fires, real ales, fine wines and seriously good food in a
friendly atmosphere, once again becoming the heart of the village. Simon
and Sarah are developing The Royal Oak into a place that is “on the map” for
dining ensuring that quality dishes are served from our Menus and fresh
specials. Our luxury accommodation rooms are all individually decorated to
a high standard each with differing local themes. Conveniently located just off the A1 the village name Swayfield derives
from the old English word ‘Swaethfield’ or ‘open land with swathes’
(tracks). Swayfield is listed in the 1086 doomsday book as Swayfield, and in
1206 as Swathefeild. The name is also found in many old records without the
“y” as in Swafield. A reason to visit, whether your looking for a lovely
meal, relaxing drink, a catch up with friends, a game of pool, celebration,
function, or simply a good cup of coffee we want you to feel relaxed and
special. Simon, Sarah and their friendly team look forward to seeing you
soon.
