The
Leather Bottle
is located in the heart of the picturesque village of Cobham,
just half an hours drive away from Leeds Castle and within easy access of
the historic city of Rochester. Built in 1629, during the reign of
Charles 1st, this attractive half timbered inn acquired its present name in
1720 as 'Ye Olde Leather Bottle' when a leather bottle containing gold
sovereigns was found here. We have strong Dickensian links as Dickens
is reputed to have visited the inn and featured it in The Pickwick Papers.
Today we have retained the traditional ambiance. The tastefully
decorated accommodation has en suite rooms, all with individual character
and named after Dickensian themes. The pub itself has original
paintings, etchings and memorabilia covering the walls. There is even
a Tuck Shop in the garden which is open during the summer months.
There is seating here for about 130 people and is a popular area to sit and
enjoy the fresh air whilst watching the children run off some energy in the
apple orchard. Inside there is a 42 seater restaurant where you can
enjoy food from a main menu, daily Specials board or the fresh fish board.
There is an extensive range of wines to choose from to accompany your meal
or a selection of real ales if preferred. Barbeques are also popular
in the sunshine. If you are looking for a new venue which has
something a little out of the ordinary to offer, then come along soon to the
Leather Bottle and relax in a bit of history.
