Inn
On The Green is a village pub,
overlooking the village green, in a rural location with a beautiful outlook
in Harpenden. We are close to the railway station from where it is
just a twenty minute journey to Kings Cross. Historically, the rear of the
pub dates back to the early 16th Century with the front only a mere thirty
years old! The building was originally two cottages, then an
ironmongers, cycle depot, town library, Mary Ellan's tea rooms and finally,
since the late 1960's, a Greene King pub. Inside there is one big room with a little annex on
the left where
functions are held. The raised area to the front of the pub turns into a stage when need
be and there are lots of wooden beams throughout this attractive venue. Outside
there is plenty of greenery and a large beer garden, arguably the best in
the village, with about 180 seats - a popular Summer haunt. Good pub
food is served at lunchtimes from a main
menu with a pizza menu after that. This is a very
friendly place to be. Quite a chameleon pub, having a heavy metal crowd
one time, a group of disabled people another day followed by the gin and tonic brigade
and so on. We hold charity events for 'Phab', a physically handicapped charity
and have raised a fair bit of money over the years for them. Everyone
is made to feel welcome here, many people in wheelchairs, who we can move furniture
around for if needs be. Next time you are in the area be sure to
choose this Inn to visit and enjoy the varied entertainment on offer.
