The Swan Hotel has an excellent
reputation for food which is all homemade from fresh ingredients.
Our full team of chefs offer a wide range of food from French
& Italian dishes to fresh cod, salmon and our delicious homemade
pies. Snacks are on offer in the bar and restaurant as well as coffee & pastries throughout the morning. There is an extensive range of

 The
Swan Hotel is a former old Coaching Inn, acting as a staging post for London
to Southampton commuters. Our guest of years gone by include Queen
Elizabeth I, The Earl Of Essex, Sir Francis Drake, Lord Nelson, Judge
Jeffries, Jane Austin, & Gilbert White. Our modern day guests include many people of
sense and sensibility, that is to say, devotees of Jane Austen. They
make their pilgrimage to her cottage in the Chawton area of Alton and
often stay with us. The cottage now is a popular tourist attraction and museum
dedicated to Jane's life and work. Sense and Sensibility and Pride and
Prejudice were written here. But you don't have to be a fan of Jane Austen to enjoy the pretty village
of Chawton or the attractions of the Swan Hotel. The hotel, dating back to
1554, has an intimate restaurant serving a varied menu of well cooked
dishes and a Specials board. You can complement your meal with a bottle from the reasonably priced wine list.
The bar and lounge are
rich in character with open fireplaces and wholesome bar meals and real ales
can be ordered here. There are 36 en-suite bedrooms, including one with
a romantic four-poster bed. Two fully equipped function rooms are
available for any type of event. Our very friendly staff create a pleasant
atmosphere to enjoy time with your friends and family. We look
