REFURBISHMENT |
We launched our refurbishment
in December 2008. The style is beautifully, traditional
in decor with sage green & cream colours which is in-keeping with the period
of the pub. There is also new seating, bench style in the public bar and
now carpet and soft furnishings in the saloon bar which complement each
other. Outside has been re-painted along with new furniture. Even the
toilets have been refurbished. |

Located in an
upmarket area, on a busy back street surround by residences, this is a
quality locals pub with an atmosphere you will not find at any other bar in
the area. Richard I is unique
by having no music, fruit machines or TV’s to spoil your enjoyment of a
quality pint of real ale or delicious homecooked food. We
launched our refurbishment in December 2008. The style is beautifully,
traditional decorated with sage green, cream etc which is in-keeping
with the period of the pub. There is also new seating, bench style in
the public bar and now carpet and soft furnishings in the saloon bar
which complement each other. Outside has been re-painted along with new
furniture. Even the toilets have been refurbished. This is
a very popular real ale house serving a selection of Youngs ales every
day. All food served is home prepared from scratch and we offer a
range of popular choices from fish pie to lasagnes accompanying by our
own mash and freshly cooked vegetables. Using old ordinance survey
maps we believe that the building dates back to before the 1700’s.
Formerly an off licence, shop and a pub called the Tolly House, which it is still known as by many from around
the area, the original frontage has been retained. The beautiful beer garden to the back of the pub has freestanding heaters and a BBQ area.
There is also a small seating area to the front. The well stocked
bar shared by the saloon and public bars
are separated by a wall. There are
traditional pub games such as shove ha’penny available with a great
games night and quiz weekly when anyone can join in. For a warm welcome from
the friendly team and locals, come and enjoy a real pub atmosphere at Richard The
First. |
