Hope & Anchor in
Islington is a legendary Rock Venue famous for being
‘the place where Punk happened in Britain’! During
the height of the punk era Clash and The Damned have
played in the cellar bar. This is a fantastic
gig venue with a small stage where other famous acts
in the past have included Spandau Ballet, Madness,
Joy Division, U2, Ian Drury etc etc….. They
have all appeared in the Basement Bar at the Hope &
Anchor. In the 1980’s recession in London the
pub was sidetracked into a wine bar style but
bounced back in the mid 1990’s and has since retaken
the frontline of the North London gig circuit,
presenting live music nightly including the likes of
The Cooper, Hope of the States and Ash to mention
but a few. A good reputation for Indie Music, you
can listen to the best of indie, punk and metal
alternatives at the Hope & Anchor. We
offer a selection of meals including Burgers, Sunday
roast as well as Yorkshire Wraps.
