Golden Lion PhotoThe Golden Lion is located on the High Street to the edge of Romford market.  This historic building dates back to 1440 when it was known as ‘Le Lion’ and is said to be the second oldest pub in England and is probably Romford's most historic building.  Having survived both World Wars, this large white building retains features such as Tudor wooden beams and uneven walls, ceilings and floors inside.  Refurbished in March 2008, we have retained this traditional look, but been re-painted with new fixtures and fittings.  During the daytime we attract regular locals,  office workers, market traders and shoppers who come for a refreshing drink or their lunchtime meal with us.  There is a younger crowd in during the evenings. This very friendly pub, with helpful staff, welcomes newcomers and passers by.  Call in next time you are in the area and feel the atmosphere.

When you visit the pub please let the staff know you have seen it on Pub Explorer.
