Located next to Borough Market and the Globe Theatre,
The Anchor dates back to 1615.
We have been frequented by Samuel Peeps, Dr Samuel Johnson
and William Shakespeare. Set over three floors the pub was refurbished in June 2008
but the
exposed brickwork and fireplaces remain untouched. Inside the downstairs area of the pub we have our own fish
& chip shop on
the mezzanine area, where we cook in-house cut chips which are cooked in
traditional beef dripping. We even have our own pie & mash. Everything
is fresh and we always have at least one grilled fish choice. The stairwell leads
to the terrace bar, which is the most upmarket part of the building.
This houses
traditional armchairs and chesterfields, with a lovely terrace outside.
Walk up a further floor and you come to the dining room which has higher
and lower parts and offers full table service. From the huge
outside seating area you get a great view of St Paul’s and Tower Bridge. The dining room
menu is bespoke with all dishes being freshly prepared. There is a mix of traditional British
and
continental to cater for every ones tastes. For something less formal
why not try our bar menu downstairs. We have one of the best
wine menus for a pub and half are available by the glass or bottle.
From 7am in the morning we have a small room available for conferences,
seminars, meetings and private dining with various packages available. We are a
very different venue from other places and with our staff
speaking most languages including Polish, Italian, Spanish, Argentinean, Singapore,
South Korean, Japanese and French, you will be made very welcome.
