The Alma is located in the
residential area of Wandsworth, opposite the railway station with routes
through to Twickenham. Dating back to the 1800’s this
large, impressive building is open plan with a central bar and has retained an air of grace with
many of it’s original features
still in place. These include the carved fireplace, large decorative mirrors, and
woodwork, including the solid mahogany staircase from the 1860’s. The roof is domed and there is a
decorative frieze on the wall in the restaurant with shiny green tiles
around the
outside. French doors open out onto the courtyard in the summertime.
This is a very busy pub all year and during the day it is a good place to relax and
read the papers. Many of the after work clientele tend to stay all night. We
see a very mixed crowd in here and, because of our location, we welcome a very
friendly rugby crowd. The only Sport we show is a major rugby
match and with loud music not on the agenda there is just friendly
conversation.
Food is popular throughout the day with choices from our seasonally changing
menus which include our biggest selling Alma Burger with brie & bacon. All
food is cooked to order and prepared using only fresh ingredients, which is
reflected in all our food. The upstairs function room provides the ideal
venue for private occasions and we even have a Civil Wedding Licence to
enable us to cater for your whole day and so take the pressure off you.
Come and see us next time you are in town.
