The Bowl Inn
is an historic pub
offering superb
accommodation, excellent
food, fine wines and
real ales. Whether
coming for business or
pleasure, these will
ensure your stay is most
enjoyable. We aim
to give consistent
quality and value for
money. The bar
area is a true
reflection of the great
British pub - offering
six cask ales along with
an excellent selection
of wines by the glass.
Nestling on the south
eastern edge of the
Severn Vale, in the
quaint village of Lower Almondsbury, the Bowl
Inn derives its name
from the shape of the
land surrounding the
Severn Estuary, which is
visible from the inn.
Parts of this
picturesque, whitewashed
stone building were
originally the three
cottages erected in 1146
to house the monks
building the adjacent
church of St Mary the
Virgin. During
subsequent centuries,
the tunnels between
these cottages, the
church and priory (now a
farmhouse) were created
to afford protection
against marauding
foreign invaders.
The present building
became a licensed inn in
1550, and it was used by
James II’s sheriffs
during the latter half
of the seventeenth
century to try
supporters of the Duke
of Monmouth.
Nowadays the inside of
the pub has kept two
original open fires,
exposed brickwork and
beams. This is a traditional pub
with a excellent dining
facilities and are
family friendly. We
provide highchairs and
crayons to keep even our
youngest visitors happy!
At the Bowl we offer an
informal warm atmosphere
in which to relax and
enjoy your visit.
Come and stay with us
soon - you will be made
very welcome. |
