The Swan is a traditional coaching Inn set in the lovely English town of Thaxted, which boasts a beautiful church, its own windmill and Dick Turpin’s cottage. Thaxted dates back to before the Doomsday Book and although the hotel has just undergone major restoration, it retains many original features such as open fires and oak beams, combined with the comfort and convenience of modern living.

Our chefs provide a range of freshly prepared meals including a variety of traditional British favourites in addition to a selection of innovative and interesting dishes. Daily changing house Specials compliment the core menu. From tasty main courses such as 'Pan-seared Barbary Duck Breast served with Blackberry & Vintage Port sauce' to light bar snacks such as 'Hand-carved Norfolk Ham & Free Range Eggs', whichever you choose, your taste buds will be satisfied.

The Swan is situated 15 minutes drive from Stansted, in the small town of Thaxted which is steeped in history. The church opposite was built in the 1400's and the pub itself dates back to the 1300's. With community activities such as Morris Dancing and the Thaxted Festival the pub welcomes many visitors, especially in the summer, along with the local regulars. Quality meals are available every day from an extensive menu. Our Sunday Roast is a superb reason to travel here.
