 The Ship
started it’s life as a Coaching Inn with several letting rooms upstairs
and a ‘spit and sawdust’ bar below. Dating back to the 1530's, it
is situated at the junction of the B1007 Stock road with Ship Road in West Hanningfield
near Chelmsford. It is rumoured that the oak beams and log fires
originate from old wrecked ships from long ago.
Over the years the
Ship has evolved into a public house seeing many landlords and landladies
in it’s time. People say that some of them still walk the floors –
as ghosts. There are some very spooky stories to be told!
Although there are no longer letting rooms, today this
welcoming venue has one large room downstairs plus a restaurant decorated in an olde worlde style with real log fires. Home prepared food is served from a main menu
and frequently changing Specials choice. These often include fresh
fish. During the summer months you can enjoy your meal al fresco
in the garden. Our real ales are kept and served to the highest standard. Come and try this delightful pub soon. It
is certainly worth travelling a little out of you way to enjoy. |
