Paul Pry PhotoThe Paul Pry is 'the' place to be in Rayleigh.  Situated on the High Street, close to the town centre, this is a good all round pub which welcomes everyone, including regulars, lots of business people and families.  The pub has two bars on different levels.  The downstairs area with its TV welcomes children whereas the upstairs bar has a number of TVs which are popular with sports fans, matches been shown on Sky.  Dating back to the Tudor times the pub has kept its traditional qualities.  The name 'Paul Pry' originates from an 1823 play by John Paul - Paul Pry being cast as a busybody, unable to mind his own business.  The name stuck and has applied to eavesdroppers and busybodies ever since.  In Victorian times there was even a scandalous news sheet published under the same name.  Nowadays, as well as the Sporting side we also offer good hearty pub food every day, live music and a quality range of drinks.  Meals and drinks can be enjoyed in the summer out in the beer garden which has seating for no less than 120 people!  At weekends we see a good young person's crowd but remain both trouble free and female friendly.  Why not give us a try soon?

When you visit the pub please let the staff know you have seen it on Pub Explorer.
