The village of Great Lumley overlooks the Durham County Cricket ground on
the banks of the River Wear. At the centre of things in every way, the Olde
England is a classic village pub. The traditional contrast between bar and
lounge is held skilfully in balance by landlady Angie and Landlord Fred so
everyone is satisfied – the locals watching big screen TV, playing darts and
the juke box in the convivial bar; and regulars from 15 miles around who come to
relax in the comfortable lounge and enjoy food on Friday through to Sunday
lunch. What both sides share is a warm and welcoming atmosphere and the best
range of good quality, well kept cask beers in the surrounding area. The Olde
England is always busy, so come early to make sure you’re nicely positioned to
