The
Kings Arms is located in the village of Great
Stainton, or
Stainton-le-Street as it was originally known, due to its position on the old
Roman road from Pountney's Bridge to Old Durham. This 17th Century
Coaching Inn has been tastefully extended over the years with old beams and real
looking fireplaces. It is the only pub in the village and has a snug area,
lounge, restaurant and bar. The
recently refurbished snug is particularly cosy and comfortable to enjoy a drink
amongst friends. Outside there are floral displays and hanging baskets to
the front and the large garden which was landscaped in Spring 2005
to incorporate a children's play area. Since Colin and Karen became the
publicans in Summer 2004 the food has improved by far with all meals freshly
prepared and cooked to order, using locally grown produce wherever
possible. The very varied menu includes sizzling platters, spit stands and
grills along with a separate Two for One menu. This destination food house
also offers a warm welcome to local regulars and visitors wanting to taste a
quality drink from the bar. Our newly introduced weekly quiz is proving very
popular too. This is a pub well worth the effort to come and find.
Give us a ring if you take a wrong turn and we'll talk you in! See you
soon.
