The Hill Top is situated some 700 feet above sea level in the Durham town of
Stanley which commands views of the surrounding hills and over to Sunderland and
Gateshead. For visitors to the nearby Beamish (England’s largest open air
museum), the Causey Arch and the Tanfield Railway (the world’s oldest
operating railway) and cyclists pedaling the C2C coast to coast cycle route,
this comfortable inn with its beer garden makes a welcome and welcoming stopping
place. The food in the large bar is good, sustaining, home prepared English
fare. For the local community the Hilltop is a favourite location any night of
the week. There’s live entertainment on Friday nights, two quiz nights
(general on Tuesdays, sports on Sundays).
