The Earl of Portsmouth
is a former Coaching Inn on the
ancient road from Barnstaple to London. Originally called the London
Inn, the thatched building was destroyed by fire on 24th August
1869. It was rebuilt by the Estate owner, The Earl of Portsmouth.
Nowadays, under the ownership of Peter Stanbury, the former Inn is a
thriving community pub as well as being the area's No1 place to eat, is well
known in the area, and thrives in the heart of the local community. We specialise in locally sourced food, much of
it coming from within a few miles of the village. Most of the real ales are local, also brewed within a few miles
of the village. The pub is now recognised nationally with entries in
the 2007 Good Beer Guide, 2007 AA Good Pub Guide - eat out devon.com and recommended in the mobile food guide.com.
