RENAMING THE BRASS MONKEY

‘Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey’ is an old phase often referred to the freezing cold brass stacks, called monkeys, that supported the iron cannon-balls on ships. Whether the origins of the phase are accurate or not the new pub, The Brass Monkey promises to offer warmth and refuge to the people of Plymouth.

REFURBISHMENT

Formerly The Hogs Head, The Brass Monkey has had a full refurbishment in Summer 2010 to accompany its new name! Come along and see the great changes soon.

Photo Coming Soon The Brass Monkey is one of Plymouths best City Centre bars, previously called the Hogs Head. Situated in the middle of the High Street, we are surrounded by shops, bars and restaurants. Being only 2 minutes from the bus station and 10 minutes from the train we are easy to get to. Local attractions include the Barbican, seafront and harbour, all ten minutes walk away. Attracting a very mixed clientele we see shoppers, office workers, families, students and tradesmen. Next to Lloyds bank, you can't miss us. This bar is a mix of traditional and modern offering bright contemporary surrounds but having retained plenty of character. At the top end of the circuit this is the ideal meeting place being friendly and great with door men on Saturday nights. The weekend sees background party music being played and a broad age group from 18 to 60 year olds. Our meals are available until late evening every day, attracting many people at lunchtimes. After 7pm the bar becomes much more busy with discounted drinks and popular matches shown on the drop down screen. We welcome all football supporters with a large following of Liverpool, Man United and local Plymouth Argyle supporters here!
