Black Bull Hotel was built around 400 years ago as a
Coaching Inn, providing accommodation for travellers, coach men and
horses. Situated in the picturesque village of Coniston, which
provides an ideal base for walkers or those wanting to take advantage of
sightseeing around the Lake District. Walkers of all capabilities
find it ideal and there are many other activities such as horseriding,
bike hire and motorbike hire located near to us and of course the
Steamship Genola which cruises the lake. it has many features which
make a visit here well worth while. Food served daily is all freshly
prepared from locally sourced ingredients including fish which is
delivered daily direct from Fleetwood, and meat from Cumbria Fell bred
cattle. Sausages are handmade by the local butcher. We take pride in
our accommodation as well and rooms are very well looked after, with at
least 2 a year being refurbished, so you can always be sure of a fresh
feel. Versitile rooms in the hotel are available, where zip link
beds are used so as to accommodate yourself or family comfortably.
Four bedrooms are housed in a cottage to the back of the hotel with
excellent riverside patio areas, much like having your own garden and are
ideal for those with dogs or who find it difficult to use stairs. Many famous people have enjoyed the Black Bull's hospitality. These
include Turner
the artist, Coleridge, De Quincey on his way to meet William Wordsworth and more
recently Donald Campbell when attempting his water speed records. We also have our own Brewery and
amongst our numerous awards, in 1998 our
Coniston Blue Bird Bitter was judged Supreme Champion Beer of Britain at the
Great British Beer Festival at Olympia in London. So whatever your
reason for visiting us you can be sure of a first class experience here.
